Looking to finance your home?
Applying for a loan is one of the more demanding parts of buying a home. But it doesn't have to be.
I have close relationships with a lot of mortgage lenders in Orange County, and they've helped me recognize a few things that make the loan application process easy.
1 – Assemble a list of questions regarding your loan program
If you find that you don't totally comprehend the ins and outs of all the various loan programs, be sure you have a list of questions.
I or one of my trusted lenders will be able to assist you with understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both programs, because it's hard to know the differences between fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.
2 – Determine when to lock
When you lock in the rate, it indicates that a mortgage lender holds to the interest rates for the loan – ordinarily at the time the loan application is submitted.
By floating the rate, you can lock the rate at any time between the loan application day and issuance of closing documents. Buyers who prefer to float conclude the interest rates will fall in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.
3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to decrease your rate
Generally you can opt to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan. Every point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan and is payable in cash at closing.

4 – Compile your paperwork
Getting a loan requires a lot of paperwork, so you should take some time to get all your documentation together. Click here to see common questions you'll have to answer on a loan app.
